In support of our goal of promoting breastfeeding in the Chicago area, we have several projects in the works toward that end. If you are interested in joining our efforts, we would be pleased to include you. Please contact any of the persons listed below.
Wouldn’t you like more breastfeeding news on television, on the radio, and in the local newspapers? The Chicago Area Breastfeeding Coalition is working to develop relationships with media contacts, respond to breastfeeding stories, and provide press releases on timely breastfeeding issues. The Coalition will provide contact information. Just add your passion for breastfeeding, and away we go!

Media Monitoring status
Do you wish doctors and their staff knew more about breastfeeding? Would you like more mothers with breastfeeding problems to be referred for lactation help? With the blessing of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Coalition will provide the AAP’s breastfeeding Power Point presentation on disk to area lactation people, so they can deliver “lunch and learn” talks at local pediatric offices. This initiative will increase physicians’ breastfeeding knowledge AND provide face-to-face contact with those to whom they can refer mothers with problems and questions. Research indicates that giving formula “gift” bags at hospital discharge increases the use of formula and decreases duration of breastfeeding. What can we do about it? A national initiative has begun (www.banthebags.org) and we’re bringing it to Chicago. Join this committee, and help us end a practice that costs parents money and results in negative health outcomes for mothers and babies.
